Flowverse AMA: Melos Studio

The Melos Studio team are building an application for creating, discovering and collecting original music on Web 3.0 and Flow. Here's an AMA with them.

1. Please introduce yourself and your background

Co-founders, Yalu and Jim both worked in various fields of music and in the blockchain industry. They came to realize that there are many music inspirations that never got a chance to be released. We built Melos to give a chance to these music pieces to be seen in public and a chance to get others to work together in a Github style environment over blockchain.

2. What is Melos Studio? What is your longer-term vision for the project?

We want more music to be heard. There are many pieces of music artwork out there which have not been heard or never had a chance to be heard. We want them to be liberated and we want people to enjoy creating and playing music.

So we have Melos, the destination for creating, discovering and collecting original music on Web3.0.

Melos is a new ecosystem for music creators and fans alike. Discover, create and earn with dynamic music NFTs called Musicblocks that act as proof of creation or co-creation. We aim to create a music ecosystem filled with ideas and inspirations that members can collect and interact with and in turn have a system of unique NFT utility that functions as:

1.    A create-to-earn ecosystem

2.    Interactive collectible

3.    A new medium of interaction between fans and artists as collaborators

In addition to the Melos Musicblocks as the building blocks, we also have in-house creation tools in WorkShop. Fully custom built with AI assistive features for newbies to a full suite of production. If you are looking for mixing features for experienced musicians, VirtualBand also has collaborative features to enable users to jam together, discuss like clubhouse, edit, leave notes and more directly on the platform. With Melos, you don’t just listen to music and collect NFTs…come discover, create and be rewarded.

3. Will Melos Studio NFTs have a utility or use case besides ownership?

Totally! At the foundation of the Melos platform, we have Musicblocks as the building blocks of our fan-creator economy on Web 3.0. The Musicblocks collection is vast and varied, from a simple guitar riff to a vocal sample or even a complete song created by a Melos member. The DNA Tree will represent the creative chain that ties Musicblocks together and in turn also represent the possible profit flows to each NFT contributor along the chain.

As an example of how the NFT creation process works and how each stage of the NFT chain is rewarded for their efforts and contribution:

  1. Pianist Aditi mints a piano tune as G0 NFT
  2. Bob sees the NFT and likes the tune, and adds his guitar riff to it and mints piano + guitar G1 NFT
  3. Camilia comes across the G1 piano/guitar NFT and adds his vocal chorus to it to mint piano/guitar/vocal G2 NFT…

4. What makes your platform unique compared to other NFT platforms?

There are a few key takeaways from the Melos Music block system:

  1. NFTs as an interactive collectible vs just a static item to buy/sell. Users can add/create value to an individual NFT and value chain, like musicians adding or remixing a tune or song.
  2. New relationships between fans, musicians, and producers as everyone now has access to a vast pool of musical elements to collect, be inspired by and build upon.
  3. A new transparent and democratic create-to-earn ecosystem for music. Both originators and collaborators are rewarded every step of the way and the entire process is clearly documented on the Flow blockchain and Web 3.0.

5. Why did you build on Flow?

As members of the Flow ecosystem, Melos team is consistently inspired by the other projects as well the whole supportive culture and ecosystem for content creators built by Flow. We are within Flowverse so the community can find us easily. We are also adopting Blocto wallet to ensure the smoothest integration between Melos and Flow and look forward to bringing extra excitement to our platform by continuing to bring exclusive music NFTs from well-known artists for our members to collect and build with.

6. What are some of the key features in the Melos Studio platform?

We’ve talked about MusicBlock NFTs (used as proof of creation or co-creation). If you are interested in creating music, but you’re not a musician or have no technical knowledge of music? We also have Metis. This is an AI assistant that helps you compose music with only needing a few music notes as inputs. We also have marketplaces for MusicBlock NFTs. Community games to reward music creation, collection and much more.

7. How do you see the NFT market shaping up in the coming years, and where do you see Flow and Melos Studio positioning in this?

We think there is going to be more mainstream adoption very soon. We see that NFTs are going to become more interactive, online or offline. We see that Melos is giving the first attempt to this trend and is going to have our users create more high quality interactive contents.

8. What are some of the major milestones you have hit so far and why are they important?

We’ve signed up with some well known artists as our music ambassadors, who also provided stems to us so our users can remix and build more music NFTs through MusicBlocks. We are launching our website very soon, and we are hoping to see new users sign up to our platform.

9. Do you have any news or upcoming drops you would like to share with us today?

We are working with Flow Fest with 6000 avatar NFTs in mystery boxes. We welcome all to sign up and join the quests. In early November, we are also going to host a drop on VIV3 and also want to welcome all to come and collect them.
